Leaders in Data and AI Are Racing Away from the Pack
Data and AI leaders are pulling away, scaling four times as many use cases at five times the financial impact per use case, while maturity keeps getting harder to reach and most companies set three-year ambitions they will miss.
Summary
BCG's fourth DAICAMA survey of almost 1,200 companies finds 95% trying to create value with AI, yet only 8% reach top maturity, down from 13% in 2021. Leaders have scaled four times as many use cases, each with five times the average financial impact. Maturity has historically grown only 8% every three years, roughly a decade per level, so ambitions are routinely missed. Leaders stand out most in ideation and prioritization, AI talent, business-driven data governance, data ecosystems and data-driven culture, but BCG stresses improving all seven capabilities rather than seeking shortcuts.
Editor's opinion
Leaders in data and AI scale far more use cases and gain far more financial impact than laggards, and the rising difficulty of reaching maturity is widening the gap.
